Suzanne Loucks Maurer passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus, her Savior, on October 13, 2024, at the age of 83 after a three-year battle with ALS. She was born in Salem, Oregon, on June 28, 1941, to Alfred and Irene Loucks. She lived an extraordinary life as a Christian.
Suzanne graduated from Salem High School in 1959 and then went to Oregon State University and graduated with a degree in education from the Oregon College of Education. She moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1967, where she met and married Roland and began a lifelong teaching career throughout many public and private schools on the island of Oahu.
As a devoted wife, beloved mother, and Christlike discipler of many Hanai adult children, she lived a life putting others before herself (Philippians 2:3-5). Her incredible impact of building God’s Kingdom continues on through countless grateful lives known only to Jesus now that she has joined Him in heaven.
Her active life included a love of hiking, camping, skiing, golf, and tennis. She was also known for her sense of humor and practical jokes, and one of the ways she blessed others was through her homemade chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her husband, Roland, three sons, Darin (Allison), Rick (Marisa), Steve (Shyrah), and her daughter, Cathee (Nalu), her ten grandchildren: Margaret (Wilson), Christopher, John, Ashley, Jack, Shea, Mehana, Kala, Maila, Zane, and great-granddaughter, Mary Graham, her cousin “Bro” John Edwards, cousin “Sis” Cheryl Schreiber and Kae Schreiber. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Judy, niece Jenni, nephew Alan, and parents-in law, Opa and Oma.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the wonderful care provided to Suzanne by Katie and the team at Islands Hospice. Donations to Islands Hospice can be made payable to Islands Hana Mana, Inc. and mailed to 820 Mililani St. #400, Honolulu, HI 96813.
Her celebration of life will be held on January 11 at Bishop Memorial Chapel at the Kamehameha Schools, where she served as a Kahu for several years. Visitation at 9:30, service at 10:30. Come as you are, and if possible, wear something purple, which was her favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Network, PO Box 7082, Woodland Hills, CA 91365 (please enter “Suzanne Maurer” on the check memo line), or through this link http://secure.alsnetwork.org/goto/Suzanne_Maurer
